As part of the Mellon Humanities in a Digital World program at USC, I participated in two summer workshops on digital remix taught by Virginia Kuhn. The following two video essays (using the term loosely, perhaps) were completed during the course of a couple days as part of the course. One, Nora Charles Goes to Rehab, was completed in Summer 2019, and examines the differences between Myrna Loy’s two most famous roles: Nora from the Thin Man films and Milly Stephenson from The Best Years of Our Lives. The other, Through a Raincoat Darkly, was completed in Summer 2018 and provides a less linear meditation on the see-through raincoat’s persistence in popular culture.
